Tools to safeguard nature in the energy transition

Hosted By: UNEP-WCMC

Expanding renewable energy presents novel opportunities and risks for global biodiversity. As the decarbonisation of energy systems progresses to meet climate targets, energy sector actors need practical tools to identify and mitigate their impacts on biodiversity across the full project lifecycle.

This session convenes a handful of organisations working at the intersection of energy and nature to demonstrate actionable tools that enable the safeguarding of nature while accelerating decarbonisation. Through lightning presentations paired with real-world case studies, participants will explore: how to screen sites for biodiversity sensitivity early in project planning; methods for quantifying and managing nature risks throughout value chains; and approaches for integrating these nature considerations into investment decisions.
